چکیده

This paper describes a new technique to simultaneously estimate topography and motion of polar glaciers from multi-temporal SAR interferograms. The approach is based on a combination of several SAR interferograms in a least-squares adjustment using the GaussMarkov model. For connecting the multi-temporal data sets, a spatio-temporal model is proposed that describes the properties of the surface and its temporal evolution. Rigorous mathematical modeling of functional and stochastic relations allows for a systematic description of the processing chain. It also is an optimal tool to parameterize the statistics of every individual processing step, and the propagation of errors into the final results. Within the paper theoretical standard deviations of the unknowns are calculated depending on the configuration of the data sets. The influence of gross errors in the observations and the effect of non-modeled error sources on the unknowns are estimated. A validation of the approach based on real data concludes the paper.

Multi-date ERS tandem interferogram analysis: application to alpine glaciers

Temperate glaciers are an indicator of the local effects of global climate change. For economical and security reasons in the surrounding areas, the monitoring of those geophysical objects is being a necessity. SAR data are expected to provide dense measurements of physical parameters which are necessary to detect significant changes and to constrain glacier flow models. In this paper, five des...

A Curvature Based Method for Combining Multi-temporal Sar Differential Interferometric Measurements

Considering multiple interferograms is a common practice in SAR differential interferometry. In fact, multitemporal SAR acquisitions are used for monitoring terrain displacements over a long period of time. Moreover, the use of multiple data sets can help reducing atmospheric artifacts in SAR interferometric measurements. Given a series of SAR acquisitions, when all the interferograms between c...

Surface Velocity of Swiss Alpine Glaciers from Ers Sar Interferometry

Differential SAR interferograms were computed over the Swiss Alps with ERS-1/2 Tandem data acquired between 1995 and 2000 from ascending and descending orbits and use of an external Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Comparison with the Swiss glacier inventory 2000 shows that winter interferograms with one day time interval have a generally high degree of coherence and are straightforward to identi...

Linear and Non-linear Long-term Terrain Deformation with Dinsar (cpt: Coherent Pixels Technique)

RESUME In this paper, an advanced technique for the generation of deformation maps using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data is presented. The algorithm, called the Coherent Pixels Technique, estimates the linear and non-linear components of the displacement, the error of the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) used to cancel the topographic terms, and the atmospheric artifacts from a reduced set of ...

Linear and nonlinear terrain deformation maps from a reduced set of interferometric SAR images

In this paper, an advanced technique for the generation of deformation maps using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data is presented. The algorithm estimates the linear and nonlinear components of the displacement, the error of the digital elevation model (DEM) used to cancel the topographic terms, and the atmospheric artifacts from a reduced set of low spatial resolution interferograms. The pixe...
